A New Zealand Airman remembers
his experiences as a POW in World War 2

60 Years ago today!

" I choose this particular north easterly direction

to try and pick up some trace of the French escape organisation.

I reasoned that a lot more aircraft were coming down
in the Pas-de-Calais area and I should be able
to pick up help easier there."

                                                                                Galbraith Hyde

He later wrote that he wished he had headed south straight for the Pyrenees.
A fellow airman Pudd Kidd who was shot down in the same area, around the same time, used this route and duly made it back to England via Spain and Gibraltar.
