Kiwi Kriegie

A New Zealand Airman remembers
his experiences as a POW in World War 2

60 Years ago today!

"
I seem to be lying face down on something.
I'm getting hot. I manage to turn my head around enough to look behind me.

I'm lying half on the nose of the aircraft. My upper body
is through the windscreen, but from the waist down I'm still in the cockpit.
And the aircraft is on fire.

I hoist myself forward, fall down the curve of the nose
and onto the soft heather that seems to be the ground cover here."

I've been wondering for the last 4 years what I should do with this story.

My Father only told it to a few people.

And each of those people remember exactly where they were the day they heard it. Perhaps you will too.

But maybe it was in the telling

We will see.
